DARTMOUTH – Hockey Nova Scotia announced today that a Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League (MMFHL) franchise has been awarded in Region 2.

After a thorough selection process, an entry from an operating group consisting of Jeff Zettler (president), Kevin Bennett (head coach), Stephanie Sewards (assistant coach, mental health coordinator), and Lou Lanceleve (general manager) was selected as the winning bid for the region. The region includes the Metro West zone (excluding Bedford and Sackville), and all of the Valley and Western zones.

Hockey Nova Scotia began soliciting bids last month.

The franchise will be branded as the Halifax Western Capitals and the team will begin operations during the upcoming 2021-22 MMFHL season.

The team operators bring decades of coaching and administrative experience from a variety of female hockey levels to the organization.

“The new franchise operators are a talented group that is committed to the development and success of their players and our Maritime league," Hockey Nova Scotia Female Council Chair Stephen Murray said.

“We are excited to work with the team’s leadership group as they look to grow and foster female hockey in the region.”

The Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League is the top Female U18 league in the Maritimes and is made up of four teams from Nova Scotia and four teams from New Brunswick.

Hockey Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Jeff Zettler, Kevin Bennett, Stephanie Sewards, and Lou Lanceleve on their winning bid and wish the Halifax Western Capitals the best of luck next season.
